If you are struggling to ditch the beige mom, neutral colors only mindset, this guide is for you! Don't get me wrong -- I love a neutral outfit as much as the next girl, but there is just something so freeing about experimenting with bright colors and bold patterns.
This guide will help you think outside the box when it comes to color combinations, pattern mixing, and finding your personal style to achieve the goal of dopamine dressing.
Step 1: Color Theory
Before we get into the specifics of styling, let's have a quick lesson on color theory!

Primary, secondary, and tertiary colors always look good in their respective categories, which can be referenced when trying out new combinations in your closet.
Using complimentary colors is also an easy way to to put together items that seem like they shouldn't go together, like orange and blue, purple and yellow, and of course, red and green.
The last way to use color theory for styling is by creating monochrome looks -- different shades of the same color. My favorite way to achieve a monochrome outfit is by starting with a blue base and pairing with different washes of denim.

Step 2: Pattern Mixing
Now that we are all experts in color theory, we can move on to pattern mixing! I would say that Etta and East is known for our pattern mixing and we might just be pros at this point. The number one "rule" we follow is that if one pattern is big then the other needs to be small. Below are examples of what this really means.

STEP 3: Accessories
Now that you have on all the colors and patterns, let's pull the look together by accessorizing!
Lately, we have been obsessed with colorful bracelet stacks, statement necklaces, and patterned bags. Shameless plug to our sister store, Beljoy -- all tarnish-free and hypoallergenic jewelry!!

At the end of the day, dopamine dressing is all about experimenting with your personal style and seeing what you truly like AND feel good wearing!
